Is there a medical profession related to obstetrics besides the actual doctor?
I've wanted to become an obstetrician for a few years now (I've just started my first year at USC) but after researching a little, I've found that it might just be too much to handle. I really love this specialty though..is there any other profession in the medical field I could look into that's related to obstetrics, besides the OB doctor? I've ruled out being a nurse by the way..

- If you don't want to be a nurse or doctor, you don't have many choices. There aren't many other people who deal with OB, except for occupations that would pay much less than either of those professions. ie:ultrasound techs, nursing techs, massage therapists who only do pregnant women and infants, midwife, or doula
- Patient Care Technicians also work in OB/GYN and do some of the things like take vital signs to help out the nurses. Also, there is a special kind of tech that works just in OB/GYN in the hospitals called an OB tech. Physicians' Assistants also work for OB/GYNs and with OB/GYNs as well. I met one at one of the OB/GYN offices I applied for a job at.
- You can be a PA, a midwife.
- How about neonatology? Or pediatrics for that matter. Specialize in newborn medicine.
- Look into midwifery. Mid wives deliver babies and help out expecting / new moms. Check it out!
