- I am not a nurse but thinking of going in similar field. I think the Ob/gyn Nurse deals with the actual preganacy. meaning the monitor the fetus and take vital signs for mother ... some even assist with the actually labor process til birth A neonatal nurse is one of the primary caregivers of a baby in the intensive care unit. Normally focus on the baby aftr birth and mother as well
- An obstetrics nurse takes care of the mother before and during labor, and may have some part in taking care of the baby right after birth. A neonatal nurse, takes care of unhealthy or critical care babies after birth. If needed they will be in the delivery room waiting to take care of the baby when it comes out, but they usually work in the NICU taking care of the babies that are in trouble. No, I am not one. But have had babies. Obstetrics is care before and during birth. Neonatal is care of unhealthy babies that have just been born.
- I'm not one, but I've delivered two babies and am pregnant with a third. From what I've noticed, the OB nurses are the ones that dael with the mother during the prenatal visits and then there are of course the ones that are in the hospital that assist the mother and the doctor with the labor and delivery. The neonatal nurse is the one that takes over with the newborn once it's delivered. They suction out the nose and mouth, clean it off, prick their little heals, weigh them, check their apgar score, etc. In other words, they deal with the baby, the OB nurse deals with the mother.
