What exactly does a physicians assistant do? Particularly one with a specialization in pediatrics? ?

i really want to work with kids. Do they only help with surgeries and do stitches? What about with pediatrics...do they only work in hospitals or clinics? What kind of hours do they work. Is it a good idea to minor in spanish?

  2. They do much of what a doctor does, and the field is changing rapidly. NOW, PAs often are the primary care for those with chronic diseases that are stable, such as diabetes and asthma. As a pediatric PA, you might have such a practice within a clinic or doctor's office--you would literally have your own patients! You would meet regularly with MD supervisors about meds, changes in the patient, etc. You might also do the smaller things like stitch up lacerations, do physicals, do workups, and the like. Great field to go into. Hours would be determined by where you worked, mostly a 9 to 5 type thing. A minor in Spanish would be great and would increase your employability.
